Hello, guys!
I've got an idea to start blogging or even launch my personal website. My only doubt is that would it be really helpful for my career as a freelance writer. I am not sure whether it worth my efforts, just don't want to waste time in vain.
Any ideas?

Well, I think it's a great opportunity to advertise yourself. Your potential employers may evaluate your writing skills, your style. I consider it to be an awesome idea worth doing.

TinaE, don't hesitate to start your own blog or site, because that may bring great bonuses to you:
1. You will get acquaint with people who have similar interests
2. You may use your site/blog in self-promotion.

So it is worth your efforts. The only 'but' is that you should be aware of how to make your site SEO friendly, which means to make your site popular, indexed in Google, Yahoo and attract traffic.
Good luck!

It's no longer a secret that SEO can be a very helpful tool to make your website or blog more popular and visible. But many bloggers just underestimate this valuable instrument. The author of article called Keyword Research for Bloggers talks about importance of keyword research to promote your blog. I decided to quote an abstract of this article here:
Quote
Keyword research can be the difference between a successful blog and one that goes nowhere, but it often seems as if many bloggers think it’s something that doesn’t apply to them, or is “only for SEO.” To the contrary, keyword research goes way beyond search engine optimization, and is all about discovering what real live people are actively interested in.
